Release date of the final book is set for Jan 8th.

Chapters one and two are up for free on TOR's site, along with excerpts
from the Prologue and chapter eleven.

The series hasn't been good since the 90s, but I do plan on getting the
final book. Just to see how it ends.

Crosspost to the GRRM group because that series will end the same way.

Let us know how it goes. Especially how much skimming you do in the
second half of the series, and how noticable the dropoff is when read all
at once.

Yeah, those middle books were pretty horrible.

I started a re-read over in the Other Group and got all the way
through, but I stopped writing out points of discussion at about book
7, because a) nobody was reading the newsgroups anymore, and b) there
were no points of interest by the time I got into Winter's Heart.

You may want to check out the last two books then, The Gathering Storm and
Towers of Midnight. Your opinion may change.

Brandon will be BUSY by then.

I liked that the series finally started moving towards a resolution.

I don't like Sanderson's writing and dialogue.

Some of the plot developments seemed a little silly, not sure if the
blame for those goes to Jordan or Sanderson.

By ALWAYS. He's bleeding book ideas like there's no tomorrow, and one of
them's a ten-very-thick-books series that he's gotten the first one of
published...

plots for individual volumes were decided by very highly placed people
in council with the author.
Business was expanded to a complete volume where it might originally
have been one of several strands in a volume, and the action in minor
theaters (so to speak) was followed when the author might have been
willing to elide it.
and (Harriet and Brandon's mealymouthed excuses aside) the fact that Tor
went directly against Rigney's wishes and expanded what was supposed to
be a single final volume into three books, I doubt this series will ever
end even after the main story concludes.

Wheel of Time is a cash cow which will probably be milked forever.
Rigney, at the behest of Tor, intended to write two other prequels, so
expect those. He also mentioned the possibility of a post-series book
about Mat, so expect that. Then expect an entire Wheel of Time expanded
universe series, and expect it to continue until the books stop selling.

Naaah, I think this series is done, once this book comes out. Of
course, the insane has been known to happen on regular occasions, but
in this case I'm just not seeing the demand for the books to continue.
They'll move on.

At least Sanderson's honest about his intentions - 30+ books in his
series, as planned? Something like that? None of this "three books,
okay seven books, ten books and I'm done" bullplop.

Woo!

Yes, we're planning a Life-After-WoT meet-up and hammered-gettening in
Amsterdam sometime in the winter. Any takers?

Meh, I can wait.

I'm reading Sanderson's Way of Kings right now, definitely worth it.
