'Finns

I was glad to see the 'finns mentioned, finally, after having been ignored
for what, approximately 7 books? I was a bit bummed that it got rushed into
a few pages, and that Mat seemed to buy in without much effort. Also, how
could he forget the Tower of Ghenji? Didn't they all look at that together
and get quite a bit of history? And they forgot the other tower in the Two
Rivers?

I guess it's a foregone conclusion that Olver will sneak in with the other
three?

Also, any chance that something in the 'finn world can be used in the Great
Battle (a la The Paths of the Dead and Gondor in LOTR?). So much potential
there...

Mat only knew about a metal tower with no openings, not its name or
that it was a way to the *finn. The "other tower", assuming you mean
the one Perrin followed Slayer to, was the same tower, and it was not
in the Two Rivers. Remember that Perrin was in the wolf dream, and he
moved far across the countryside. What Perrin learned about the tower
from Birgitte was not passed to Mat, but Birgitte told Olver even more
about it.

From what Moiraine said that would really lower their chances, and
Olver would have to have his own bronze knife to sneak in after them.
Unless Mat somehow does something to prevent a disaster if Olver does
go in. He'll lose his eye to the *finn somehow; it fits with the
mythological pattern, I think. Unless that's what RJ wants us to think.

What will happen is probably hidden in the mythological references, but
I have no idea. Saving a princess locked in a tower is something I
never expected from RJ, which is exactly why he did it, I'll bet.
Moiraine herself is probably that "something" you referred to; Rand
needs her for some reason, and we know he'll fail without her.

With Mat along, what difference does it make how low their chances are?
If Olver sneaks in, RJ will expect us to react "Oh, no. They can't
succeed now." It would provide for additional dramatic tension.

Thom's letter stipulates that the rescue party MUST be 3 men, no more, no less.
How can the mission succeed if there are 4?

Besides obvious - what if something happens to one of the three on the way
to tower so that other two have to take Olver with them to keep a company
of three - there are other things to consider.

In the Rand-land nothing should be taken literally. Three men and a boy,
three rescuers and a spectator for a ride, etc.

The letter is Moirane's understanding of what she saw, maybe she's wrong or
missing something.

Finally, maybe the rescue should fail. Are we sure that Moirane rescue
will not result into DO winning? If she's rescued, her sacrifice is very
small - what, a couple of years (sorry, did not keep a track of how much
time passed) from her long life as AS?

Why isn't there an Orange Ajah or a Purple Ajah?

Moiraine saw 3 men in the successful rescue mission, and nobody else.

Could the Book of Translation be used (send your enemy to another dimension!)?

Mat could forget the Tower of Ghenji (although not permanently), because
he was under the influence of that dagger. It was early on, but it still
might have begun to screw with his head.

It's already been stated that Mat only vaguely remembers everything from
the time he left the Two Rivers to Caemlyn, and there are holes before
and after as well. I'm pretty sure he's missing whole chunks of his
childhood.

Thus messing up the rescue of Moiraine.
