Discussion:
Setalle Anan and her age

I was reading the nine-book trilogy and suddenly asked myself, just what is
the connection between the Kin and Setalle Anan? She recognises Garenia as
Zarya Alkaese, and Garenia puts that acquaintence at several decades prior
- her grandmother's sister, she alleges. Then Setalle Anan is known to the
Kin as someone having a prior acquaintance with the White Tower, and
apparently has been so known for seventy years.

As we know, in Randland users of the Power don't age very fast. Is it
possible that Setalle Anan's one of the women who survived stilling?
Because she doesn't appear to recognize that the Kin are using saidar when
she drags Elayne and Nynaeve along to see them.

Any thoughts?

I think either the FAQ and/or a prior discussion dealt with this.
IIRC, her being a burned out AS is the consensus.

How did she get burned out? I remember something about an AS burning
herself out while experimenting with a ter'angreal, and also knocking
herself out for a week! When she came too, she couldn't remember what
she'd been doing for the previous week, so no one has had the nerve to play
with her ter'angreals since!

Thanks for your reply but, would you mind helping out with another? Do
you have or have you ever had any direct contact with RJ or his Tor
Team of backgrounders?
I have always wondered....
I have wondered because you have done more work on the WOT Universe
than it seems he has.
You could probably finish it.
Why don't you try?

As truly magnificent in every conceivable way as Leigh Butler should
rightly be recognised as being, it's also true that the FAQ is not the
work of but a single FAQueen. There have been, if memory serves, at
least two others, and beyond that, a list of contributors as long as
your arm. It is an excellent and informative example of the FAQ maker's
art, isn't it?

Erika Sadun and Pamela Korda are the other former queens of all that is
FAQ, although I couldn't say for sure that there isn't another one as well.

It is. People who are bored one day should take a look at the archive
of former incarnations of the FAQ on Rick's website; it's kinda
fascinating to see how it evolved.

Or try this on for, heh, size:

No, it's been Erica, then Pam, then me, as far as I am aware, though
there are a number of other people who have made significant
contributions as well, the ones in my time who have rocked the hardest
being Rich Boye, John Novak, Jeff Dougan, and Steven Cooper.

All of whom I love having any opportunity to give props to. Because
they, as I might have mentioned, rock.

None at all. Wrong field, wrong coast.

Heh. I doubt that. I would doubt it even if I were responsible for the
entirety of the FAQ, which I most definitely am not; I've only been in
charge of it since WH. The bulk of the credit for FAQery should rightly
go to the lovely and talented Pam Korda.

But either way, trust me, as someone with some writing experience, even
creating and maintaining a gigantic FAQ about an ongoing novel series
is nothing compared to the amount of effort it takes to actually
*write* an ongoing novel series.

Novels is hard.

I'm flattered, but also not interested in (a) writing someone else's
creation and (b) massive lawsuits.

Since Chuck seems to have stalled, why not finish "The Steal of Time"
instead? ^_^

Thanks. I thought that before I posted; good to see it's been handled in
such depth.

I seem to remember somewhere reading one of the characters (Elayne or
Egwene) think of the last woman to be stilled and the date, though as I
can't remenber what it was, it doesn't help either way. It could also
be worht mentioning how important she felt it was that her daughters not
stay in a palce where women who are able to channel be collared

In KoD, Mat figured out that Setalle Anan had indeed been stilled. This means that
Nynaeve can Unstill her!
