What exactly is this Ogier 'Book of Translation'? Has it been
mentioned before? It seems to imply that the Ogier are going to pull a
LOTR elves and sail off to never-neverland...

Translation is an odd word for something like that, however...

That's how I read it, too. It's never been mentioned before (IdealSeek
backs me up on that, and I doubt it was in CoT).

Not really, just a less common usage. It's geometric translation, a shift
of location, not a language shift.

In fact, and this is yet another new Loony Theory, I bet the Book of
Translation is both types of translation. I think it allows the Ogier to
translate Portal Stones, and so escape by "translating" themselves out of
this world.

"I'm gonna save Rose Tyler from the middle of the Dalek fleet, and
then I'm gonna save the Earth, and then, just to finish off, I'm gonna
wipe every stinking Dalek out of the sky."
"But you have no weapons, no defenses, no plan."
"Yeah. And doesn't that scare you to death?"

I really like that theory.

For some reason, I was tempted to believe the book would have the
tinkers' song in it.

"Go on, then."

Except... Ogier can't channel. Maybe they can make the portal stones
work by *singing* to them, or something. Or maybe the book somehow
sends some of the OP to the portals, allowing the Ogier to go without a
channeller. Or maybe they borrow a channeller, who then translates
back to earth, with the Ogier's help in finding the return symbol.

I took it to mean that the Ogier are alien to this world. Possibly from
another Dimension, but more likely IMO from another world in this
Universe.

Not really that odd.

This series is seeming more and more like LOTR. But less well written.

Is that even possible?

Could the Ogier bring reinforcements to Randland via the Book of
Translation?
