First thoughts on tGS WoT 12 **SPOILERS**

Hi all,

It's been a loooong time since I've posted here but I felt so excited
that I had to return! I'm sure that most of you have already read the
book in it's entirety by now (I for one am a slow reader) but I've
just finished the prologue and I wanted to put my two cents in that I
think Sanderson is going to be amazing. The amount of fulfillment we
got in the prologue was mind boggling!

Masema?! That was quick!

I'm thinking I've got a LOT of reading ahead of me to a) re-read the ones I
read and then b) read the ones I never read because I lost the will to live
before I can c) read the new one.

battle at Dragonmount itself against the Aiel. He almost certainly
knows what Morgase used to look like. Perrin isn't likely to.

It assume it was Galad who pointed out his step mother. At one point
in the book, either Rand or Mat (can't remember whose PoV it was) had
one of their swirly colors episodes and saw Galad talking with Perrin.
This was prior to Cadsuane meeting up with Perrin's group.

I had forgotten about that. You are quite correct. I really can't
wait until Gawyn finds out and his whole little shitty attitude falls
down around him. I really wanted to like him when the series started,
but he just turned into a complete and total friggin idiot.

The ugly truth is that the next book will have lots of Perrin and Elayne
since they were largely skipped in tGS. The reveal might be interesting,
but I might just have to skim over those chapters if there are too many
angsty Tallanvor/Morgase scenes...

IMHO, Rand should periodically Travel to Caemlyn so that he can boink Elayne
silly!

When they were in bed in Winter's Heart, why didn't they arrange a date for
him to visit with her?

I've gotten through 20 chapters, but it's been rough going. Sanderson
keeps all the faults Jordan had, but adds new ones besides --
specifically, the prose is bland and bad. Plotwise, almost nothing has
happened; in this he's certainly faithful to Jordan. The Egwene passages
are especially tedious.

I do wish the Great Old Ones of rasfwrj would return to give us their
verdict on this book.

The Egwene scenes were the best in the book, IMO. They really seemed to be
well developed and moved along at a fast clip, with major conclusions and
advances made.

Mat was terribly caricatured, as was Cadsuane. Sanderson really failed with
these characters.

Between Verin, (especially) Egwene and the Rand near the end, a lot of
great moments in this book. So many threads tied up, finally! The Mat
humour was laboured, and Perrin has become a character in a rut, but
the rest of it - oh, my.
