Anyone willing to speculate on how big a following Lan might bring to
Tarwin's Gap? I was re-reading the KoD chapter and wondered what size
we could expect, especially since, in EotW, many soldiers seemed
willing to abandon their posts and follow Lan into the Blight.

My thoughts run along these lines: The BoTO brought about two hundred
thousand soldiers with them, with their thinking being that they left
enough troops to protect against anything short of the Trolloc Wars. I
take that to mean they took the bulk of their armies with them. Lets
assume they took about half their troops, which means there are
somewhere between 100,000-200,000 regular troops in the four Borderland
countries. It can be taken for granted that all would march behind
Lan's banner, but to be conservative, say 50,000 dont for some reason
or another. Still leaves us with an army of a considerable size.

Then we have the Borderland volunteers; the merchants and such that
will flock to the Flying Crane as it passes by. Don't know if its been
said anywhere, but I think its assumed that all Borderlands men (and
most women I would expect) learn basic use of swords or other weaponry
for defending against Shadowspawn. And, while not possibly as well
armed, armored and trained as the rank-and-file Borderland soldier, say
we can expect an additional 100,000 able bodies at least coming from
all over that would be willing to follow.

Thats my take on what we might see near Malkier in the next book, pls
go ahead and give opinions on this.

I urge Nynaeve to invite the Borderland Armies to join Lan.
