200 Black Ajah sisters!? Out of total a little more than 1000 sisters
that's one in five. Numbers for Egwene's camp seem to indicate the
same, 70 Black Ajah among a bit more than 300 sisters.

Somehow I just find that too many. That would certainly not make 2
black out of thirteen Sitters a very large number, it's even less than
a random pick would be...

Is anyone else finding this number incredible? Makes me wonder what
the general ratio of darkfriends is.

There are fewer than 1000 sisters. The TAS and SAS each had roughly
200-250, with another third out scattered (Cadsuane's bunch, the
Borderlander group, etc.). So, 200 out of ~750 is 26%, or just over 1 in 4.
There is a good article on the counts of the AS at the 13th Depository
website for more info on the counts.

That was pretty shocking to discover 200 (whatever the total count fo AS)
sisters were Black. Interesting that so few of the Sitters were Black, but
looking at Alviarin's example, how many Sitters and Ajah Heads are heavily
influenced by close advisors sworn to the Shadow?

The number makes sense when you consider the kind of person that is actively
seeking to be trained in the OP. Either they have a strong desire for
power, they are frightened out of their wits and scare their families when
they start channeling uncontrollably, or they have a strong personal reason
to go and try to learn this power. Lots of internal motivations that could
lead towards swearing Black with those reasons...

I can't find the post you are refering to, do you have a direct link?
My numbers were from older estimates made on this group, and I can't
really vouch for them very well, so I guess you might be right. But
I'd like to see how it was established.

After a cursory search, I can't find the exact article the breakdowns were
mentioned in, but I believe it was in one of the articles in the 'preparing
for the storm' series. There is some great stuff on that site.

Hello,

at the end of the following article

http://13depository.blogspot.com/2002/03/dead-captured-and-
missing-aes-sedai.html

"That’s approximately 4% of the total population of Aes Sedai
(which is about 1000)"

This number is mentioned in ACOS, Chap. 31 "Mashiara", when Elayne thinks
about the Kin "Two thousand Wilders ...There were nearly twice as many
Kinswomen as there were Aes Sedai"

Ishamael has had how many thousand years to slowly and quietly build up
the relative percentage? And up until extremely recently, it was official
policy in the Tower to not even ADMIT the existence of the BA. Which makes
any sort of organized method for whittling away at it not very buildable...

I note that while there might be Darkfriends among the Kin, the Windfinders,
etc., there don't seem to be many actual "Black Ajah", or even the analog,
there. Ishy seems to have been concentrating mainly on the Tower.

Verin found some Darkfriend Accepteds and novices too. What will Egwene
do with them?
